Gus Comstock is happy the city of Delaware is likely to land a business incubator, but he’s dreaming bigger.
Delaware County’s economic development director, Comstock has been trying to hatch an incubator plan for nearly four years.
“It’s frustrating being in one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, and we don’t have an incubator,” he told me. “We’re trying to get all these cosmic pieces to come together in Delaware.”
The county’s rapid growth has been mainly residential, augmented lately by big retail developments. The next piece is office and industrial growth.
He looks to the city of Dublin, which spills into Delaware and Union counties from Franklin County: It has 111 startups in its Dublin Entrepreneurial Center, which has all its offices claimed and space available only for cubicles and “hot spots.”
