Dublin Resident and Community Volunteer Michael Blackwell Honored
(DUBLIN, Ohio) – Community volunteer and Dublin resident Michael Blackwell, will lead Dublin’s Greenest, Grandest St. Patrick’s Day Parade as the 2014 Grand Leprechaun on Saturday, March 15. In this role, Blackwell will preside over parade activities including serving as judge of the parade float decorating contest.
“I’m surprised, thrilled, and humbled to be named the 2014 Grand Leprechaun,” Blackwell said. “When I look at the names of the Leprechauns who have come before me, all of whom have done so much to help Dublin be the outstanding community it is, I’m overwhelmed with pride to be thought worthy of standing in their great company.”
Blackwell serves as Communications Director of the Dublin AM Rotary, Ambassador of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Board member of the Historic Dublin Business Association, and is a City of Dublin Bicycle Ambassador. In addition, he is a member of the Dublin City Schools Business Advisory Council and is candidly a two-time winner of Historic Dublin Business Association’s Best Legs in a Kilt contest. A graduate of Leadership Dublin, Blackwell is the Manager of the Dublin Branch Library. He and his wife Lisa served as 2012 King and Queen of Halloween for the City of Dublin Halloween Spooktacular. A Dublin resident, Michael and Lisa have four children that graduated from Dublin City Schools.
In their nomination of Blackwell, former Grand Leprechauns Gayle and Tom Holton said, “whether through his involvement as the manager of the Dublin Library, or thorough his volunteer efforts with Dublin A.M. Rotary, Michael has an unusual and enviable way to bring fun to work.”
Dublin’s Greenest, Grandest St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15 at Metro Center and ends in Historic Dublin. Prior to the parade, The Hooligans will perform at the Review Stand in front of Indian Run Elementary School. An Inflation Celebration will take place at Graeter’s Ice Cream at 9 a.m. and the Dublin Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. at Sells Middle School, on W. Bridge Street.
