(DUBLIN, Ohio)—The City of Dublin Division of Fleet Management has been designated as an Ohio Green Fleet by Clean Fuels Ohio’s statewide Ohio Green Fleets program.
The Ohio Green Fleets program recognizes fleets efficiency and environmental performance. Designated Ohio Green fleets provide a community service by improving air quality and reducing Ohio’s dependence on imported petroleum.
The Division of Fleet Management earned designation as a one-star Ohio Green Fleet. Fleets are evaluated based on policies they have implemented to reduce vehicle emissions and reliance on petroleum fuels. The City has reduced its reliance on petroleum fuels by adding 44 new vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) to the City fleet. This new technology will save the City an estimated $30,000 a year in fuel costs and significantly cut down on vehicle emissions. Additionally, the City earned a place in the 100 Best Government Fleets in North America this year.
“Providing our customer agencies with economically and environmentally sound transportation is one of our top priorities,” said Darryl Syler, fleet manager. “These 44 compressed natural gas powered vehicles are more cost effective and environmentally friendly than petroleum powered vehicles.”
About Ohio Green Fleets program:
Ohio Green Fleets is a comprehensive program designed by Clean Fuels Ohio to improve the environmental performance and efficiency of public and private fleets. The Ohio Green Fleets program consists of three core components:
- Direct consultation with fleet managers to develop a Green Fleet management plan tailored to specific organizational needs.
- Hands on support and assistance with implementation, including assistance in seeking grant funding to reduce implementation costs.
- Recognition of environmental leaders through a Five-Star rating system that scores fleets based on measurable reductions in vehicle emissions and improvements in efficiency.
Since its launch in August 2008, Ohio Green Fleets program has engaged hundreds of fleets across the state in workshops, seminars and individual meetings. This work has resulted in the active enrollment of more than 250 public and private organizations—all of who have provided fleet data and begun the process of earning Ohio Green Fleet certification.
