(Dublin, OH) – The City of Dublin and Ohio University will hold a Tree City Celebration at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Ohio University Dublin Campus, located at 6775 Bobcat Way.
Several Ohio University leaders, including Provost Pam Benoit, will travel from Athens to Dublin for the celebration. They will join OU Dublin Campus faculty and students and City of Dublin officials in a brief ceremony followed by a tree planting event.
The planting will feature a Yoshino Cherry Tree, which has special significance for Ohio University.
“Planting a tree is a legacy. What better way to solidify a long lasting relationship between the City of Dublin and Ohio University than planting a tree,” said Paula Chope, City Forester.
This is the 27th year Dublin has earned national recognition as a Tree City USA. To recognize this accomplishment and highlight the City’s pledge to forestry and increasing local green space, Dublin will plant three Yoshino Cherry trees during the ceremony.
The Tree City USA award is significant as it is based on four qualifications: a community that has a Tree Board or Department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and a proclamation.
