Dublin Police want residents to be aware of a scam where a person(s) claims to be a federal officer who insists that residents pay him/her a fine. The imposter(s) often call victims, claiming to be from the IRS or another federal agency. The victims are told if pay a fine now, they can avoid being charged with a crime. Four such reports have been made with Dublin Police since Dec. 11, 2013.
Dublin Police want residents aware that the calls are a scam. If anyone in Dublin receives such calls, or if anyone notices suspicious activity in Dublin, please contact the Dublin Division of Police at 614.889.1112.
The IRS also offers tips on their website and notes that they never phone taxpayers about delinquent taxes; notices are sent by mail. For more information from the IRS go to http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Phone-Scam
