(Dublin, OH) The City of Dublin earned the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada(GFOA) 2020 Triple Crown Award which recognizes governments that have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award within the same fiscal year.
The City of Dublin is one of just 317 governments to receive the Triple Crown for Fiscal Year 2020.
According to the GFOA, the Triple Crown designation represents a significant achievement in which each entity must meet the high standards of all three separate award programs that each recognize governments for producing reports which communicate their financial stories in a transparent manner and meet applicable standards.
“This is an incredible honor for the City. We are committed to transparency and accountability across City operations, and this award is a respected validation of our efforts to share information about our fiscal health on behalf of our residents and business community,” says City of Dublin Director of Finance Matt Stiffler.
The three awards included in the Triple Crown honor are:
- Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting recognizes state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
- Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award honors state and local governments who extract information from their annual comprehensive financial report to produce high quality popular annual financial reports specifically designed to be readily accessible and easily understandable to the general public and other interested parties without a background in public finance and then to recognize individual governments that are successful in achieving that goal.
- Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, DC. Through its awards program, GFOA encourages governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and prepare financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
