Dam safety provides Ohio’s citizens with the dual values of protecting lives and property downstream of Ohio’s dams as well as the societal benefits that would be lost due to dam failure such as drinking water, flood control, recreation , energy, and irrigation.
There are approximately 1,550 jurisdictional dams in the state with a conservatively estimated value over $1.6 billion.
The O’Shaughnessy Dam is located on the Scioto River just north of the City of Dublin. The dam forms O’Shaughnessy Reservoir, which is a major source of drinking water for the area. The reservoir holds 6.3 billion US gallons over a surface area of 845 acres.
