(Dublin, Ohio) — This weekend, the City of Dublin will commemorate the complex history of Juneteenth, which is being recognized for the second year as a federal holiday. The public is invited to a community event at Riverside Crossing Park on Sunday, June 19, starting at 8:45 p.m. to recognize the holiday and celebrate inclusivity in Dublin.
Members of the Community Inclusion Advisory Committee (CIAC), one of the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion groups, will host the Juneteenth Commemoration and Celebration event in partnership with the People Like Me Project.
The event will include speakers explaining the origins of Juneteenth and a unity walk across The Dublin Link pedestrian bridge. CIAC members will also discuss the significance behind the red, white, blue, green and yellow color scheme of the bridge that seeks to recognize the holiday’s uniquely American roots. The bridge will be lit the evenings of June 19 and 20.
