More than18years ago, City leaders foresaw theneed for anew route through theCity. In2014, that visionbecamea reality
with thecompletionof the8thand nal phaseof EmeraldParkway. Thecompletedeast-west connector now stretches from
TuttleCrossingBoulevard toSawmill Road.
It is anuninterrupted,
5.6mileeconomicdevelopmentdriver
. Thereare
1.5millionsquare feet
of commercial
development along theparkway. TwelveofDublin’s
top50companies
are locatedalong the route, generating
$17
millionannually
in income taxes for theCity. The nal sectionopenedupanadditional
115acres
of primecommercial
development.
The last phaseextended theparkway fromRiversideDrive to just northof Bright Roadand includedanew roundabout at
Bright Road. The stretchprovides access toareaneighborhoods and includesbicycle friendly features, including shared-lane
markings andmulti-usepaths.
EmeraldParkwayalso improved safety in theCity,making itmoree cient for theDublinDivisionof Policeand the
WashingtonTownshipFireDepartment to respond toemergencies.
TheCity startedconstructiononphase8onPresidentsDay, February17, 2014, andopened the roadway less than10months
later onDecember 1. TheCommunityRelations teammarked theaccomplishmentwithacommunitycelebration.
“Partyon
theParkway”
includedmusic, entertainment, foodandaceremony that featuredcurrent and former CityCouncilmembers
andcommunity leaderswhohelpedpave theway for theproject andmake it a reality. Anestimated250 residents also took
part in thecelebration. CentralOhioheardabout theopening throughextensivemediacoverage resulting fromamedia
preview tour of theParkway thedayprior to theopening.
