I-270/U.S.33 Interchange
In2014, theCityofDublingearedup for oneof the largest andmost highlyanticipated road improvement projects in the
City’shistory– the I-270/U.S. 33 interchange. Dublin led theway in securing state funding for theproject,making it possible
more thanadecadeaheadof schedule.
Theproject is a top transportationpriority for centralOhio, andDublinhasworkedproactivelyandcooperativelywith
regional partners, including theCityofMarysville, UnionCounty, theOhioDepartment ofTransportationandMid-Ohio
Regional PlanningCommission.
The interchange is acritical gateway from thenorthwest andhasnot been signi cantlyupgraded since its initial construction
in the1960swhenDublinwas a rural communityof fewer than700 residents. Today,more than43,000 residents and70,000
employees compete for safeande cient travelwith trucks andother travelers along thebusy route.
The$70million improvement projectwill relievecongestionand improve
safety, eliminatingunsafeweavingmovements that have led toanaverageof
127crashes eachyear. Thosenumbers areprojected todecreasebyalmost 25
percent after theconstruction is complete.
Theproject alsowill help the region retain jobs andencourageeconomic
growthwhile improving theoverall greater Columbus transportation
network, expanding the region’spositionas aglobal logisticshub.
Thenew interchangewill improveaestheticswithcreative landscapedesign
andartwork inspiredbyDublin’s cultureandnatural beauty. Retainingwalls
will includedesigns that re ect aSciotoRiver scene, and thebridgepiers and
parapetswill featureCeltic knotwork, inspiredbycommunity input.
Workon the rst phaseof theproject begins in spring2015withmajor
constructioncompletedby fall 2016and nal pavingand landscaping
nished in2017. The secondphasewill eliminate the loop ramp in the
northeast quadrant. That phase isprojected tooccur in10 to15years.
