Dublin sets thebarwhen it comeswhen it comes topoliceprotection. TheCitywasnamedone
of the top100 safest cities in theU.S. byNeighborhoodScout andoneof theSafest 50Cities inOhio,
bySafewise. TheCity’s crime statisticsbear someof the reasonswhy.
Dublin sawadecrease inpropertycrimesover thepast fiveyears –a trend that continued in2013.
Thefts fromvehicles in2013were reducedby2.7percent comparedwith2012. Inaddition, Dublin
Police, incoordinationwith school officials, experienceda29percent reductionof theftson
school property.
Statistics cannever tell the full story, though. As anexampleof their explemary service, DublinPolice
leda lawenforcement task forcewhichprovidedprotection forThePresidentsCup. Theeventwas
aweek longand involved12other lawenforcement agencies,whichprovidedprotection for the
180,000visitors inDublin for theevent –and theeventsoccurredwithout incident.
Other divisionmilestones:
TheDivisionconvertedand renamed itsdispatchingcenter to theNorthwest Regional Emergency
CommunicationsCenter after successfullycompletingnegotiations todispatch forNorwich
TownshipFireand thecityofHilliardPolice. Dispatchingbegan forNorwichTownshiponOctober 1.
TheDublinCitizenPoliceAcademygraduated its secondclasswith27 students, bringing itsgrand
total of graduates to50.
TheDivision started theCommunityServiceOfficer (CSO) program,madeupof DublinCitizen
PoliceAcademygraduateswhoweregivenadditional trainingandprovidedhelp topolicewith
trafficcontrol, housechecks, vehicle lockouts, and“hotspot”crime surveillance. TheCSOsmade
their debut at theDublin IrishFestival, providingDublinPolicewithanextra set of eyes andears
for the festival that attractsmore than100,000people.
