Oneof thevolunteer highlightsof theyearwas thepresentationof thePresidential ServiceAward
forVolunteer Service to theoriginal teamofDublinBicycleAmbassadors. In2013, the teamof 40
ambassadorsmonitored15,000milesof bikepaths. In the fall of 2013, theybegan toworkwitha
LeadershipDublinProjectGroup toexplorebike rental andbike tours inDublin.
Other volunteer highlights include:
TechnologyTrials: Volunteers testedon-line systems for beta testing
Volunteers continued to serve ina supportive role in67%of all Citydepartments, ranging from
special events andparks/horticultureprojects to recreationprogramming, officeand support
CampProject L.E.E.D. volunteers served thecentralOhiocommunitywithnearly4,000hoursof
volunteer service, reachingout tononprofit organizations suchas theRonaldMcDonaldHouse,
FaithMissionandmore. Thepurposeof thecampcombines traditional recreationprogramming
withvolunteerism that sparks youth intoaction for thegoodof others
TheCity sponsoredapartnershipwithLifeCareAllianceon theMartinLuther King, Jr. Dayof Service
bypacking“EmergencyReadiness Kits”for senior citizensonDublin’sMealsonWheels routes
Recreationcenter programparticipants volunteered for twohands-onprojects:
1)Making sleepingbags from recycledmaterialswhicharedelivered to theunshelteredcentral
Ohiohomelesspopulationand2)“I’veBeen inYour Chair,”themakingof blankets for those
undergoingcancer treatments
Participation in theArts
Resident feedbackandparticipation in2013helped shape twopublicart projects. Residentswatched
Michael Tizzanoashe sculpteda replicaofDublin’s townpump ina seriesof public sculpture
sessions at theDublinCommunityRecreationCenter. Thebronzeand limestone sculpturedepicts
how residents retrieved their dailywater supplycirca1900. The sculpturewill be installedat the
northwest corner of BridgeandHigh streets inHistoricDublin.
Publicartwill be incorporated into thenew I-270-US33Northwest Interchange. Throughpublic
meetings and input from the270/33AestheticDesignSelectionCommittee, theSciotoRiver design
conceptwas chosen. The river is a symbol of longevity, embodiesour“green”communityphilosophy
and showcases thepopularityof outdoor recreational activities inDublin.
Interactionwith Information
In2013, theCityofDublincontinued toprovideaccess
toonline services anywhere, anytime, onanydevice. By
continuing toadapt to the latest digital and socialmedia
outlets, theCityestablishedand re-enforcedoutreach
toour audiences andencouragedpublicengagement.
Withmore than15,000 followersonTwitter, Facebook
and Instagram,wewereable toattract, engageand
strengthenour relationshipwith residents, business
andmediaby facilitatingon-goingdialogues.
People joined theCity’s eNews at a rateof onenew
personeveryday throughout theyear, ending theyear
with2,749 subscribers.
Broadcastingonlineandon theCity’s television
channel, viewerswereenlightenedwith92newDublin
videos in2013.
