Laura Krietemeyer has lived in Dublin for the past 21 years. A few years ago, she developed multiple disabilities that prevented her from driving and impacted her ability to travel around Dublin as much as she would like.
Today, Laura uses the Dublin Connector to help her get to essential spots and explore new activities and opportunities around the City.
“Without the Dublin Connector service, I couldn’t possibly stay in my home and this community,” Laura says. “I can go so many places I never would’ve thought of. I use the service to shop, go to medical appointments and, very importantly, do more social things such as dining out, visiting the library, seeing movies and more.”
The Dublin Connector is a free transportation service for Dublin residents over the age of 55, residents with disabilities or anyone who works in Dublin. The Dublin Connector provides necessary transportation options for Dublin’s workforce, eliminating a barrier for many jobseekers looking to work in the community.
The program is sponsored by the City of Dublin and operated by SHARE Mobility. To use the Dublin Connector, create a SHARE Mobility account. Trips must be booked at least two hours in advance and can be booked through the SHARE Mobility app, the Dublin Connector website or by calling 833.742.7333. The Dublin Connector will pick up and drop off to any address in Dublin.
“The Dublin Connector is run so well. It’s easy to use, safe and efficient,” says Laura. “Scheduling a trip is simple. The night before my ride, I get a text confirming my trip. When my driver is on the way, it informs me of what type of vehicle is picking me up and the license plate number.”
Laura confirms that the Dublin Connector staff has been nothing short of accommodating, giving a special shout-out to driver James Hadley. “He is so fantastic,” she praises.
Not only does the Dublin Connector have a positive impact on community members, it also helps the environment by reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles on the road. This decreases greenhouse gas emissions, accident rates, traffic congestion and the need for repairs to public infrastructure due to vehicle wear and tear.
The Dublin Connector is a transportation system with a lot of perks. For example, it has wheelchair accessibility, professional drivers, sanitized vehicles and the SHARE Mobility app makes the scheduling process simple. Laura believes it is important to spread the word about the Dublin Connector so that other residents can utilize its many benefits.
“I would have to move if it weren’t for the Dublin Connector,” Laura states. “I want the City to know how appreciative I am for this service.”
