City of Dublin to Host 2026 Memorial Day Service and America 250 Community Picnic

(Dublin, Ohio) — This Memorial Day, Dublin honors the heroic service of those who sacrificed their lives for our country. The City of Dublin and the Wesley G. Davids Dublin Post 800 of the American Legion invite the community to join in a Memorial Day Ceremony and America 250 Community Picnic Monday, May 25. 

Memorial Day Events Schedule:

  • 11 a.m. – A procession through Historic Dublin, starting at the Shoppes at River Ridge, followed by a wreath-throwing ceremony at the West Bridge Street Bridge
  • 11:30 a.m. – Memorial Day Ceremony at Dublin Cemetery located at 83 W. Bridge St. featuring keynote speaker Col. Andrew Powers
  • 12:30 p.m. – An expanded, America 250 Community Picnic on the front lawn of Indian Run Elementary
  • 3 p.m. – Honoring the National Moment of Silence across America

The event is open to the general public. Guests are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs for their comfort. Parking is available at Dublin Community Church, the Rock Cress parking garage and throughout Historic Dublin.

America 250 Community Picnic
As part of this year’s Memorial Day observance, the City of Dublin will host an expanded Community Picnic in celebration of America 250, held in conjunction with the State of Ohio’s Homecoming & Picnic celebrations. Following the ceremony, guests are invited to the front lawn of Indian Run Elementary for lunch, games and live entertainment, provided alongside local community organizations. Lunch will be available while supplies last, and the event will conclude with participation in the 3 p.m. National Moment of Silence to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Keynote Speaker
Colonel Andrew P. Powers is the Commander of the 121st Air Refueling Wing, Ohio Air National Guard, located at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Ohio. He enlisted in 1995 as a Security Forces specialist, beginning more than 30 years of military service, and was promoted to colonel in November 2022. Over his career, he has held numerous leadership and command roles across operations, planning and intelligence, including positions at the 178th Wing and 121st, the National Guard Bureau, and Joint Forces Headquarters-Ohio.

A Level II Joint Qualified Officer and Command Pilot with more than 2,870 flight hours, he has participated in multiple major operations, including Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve, completing more than 130 combat and combat support sorties. Col. Powers has received numerous awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and has earned several distinctions for leadership and academic excellence. A 1994 Dublin High School graduate, he was inducted into the Dublin City Schools Hall of Fame in 2025.

Beyond his military career, Dublin native Col. Powers is committed to serving his community. He has held numerous volunteer roles, including serving as a former secretary of the Hemingway Village Civic Association and Cub Master at Scottish Corners Elementary. He currently serves on the advisory board for the Dublin City Schools Aviation Academy.

As Commander of the 121st Air Refueling Wing, Col. Andrew P. Powers leads the unit directly impacted by the recent U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker crash in Iraq during Operation Epic Fury that claimed the lives of three of its airmen. The loss is deeply felt across the Wing he commands, underscoring the close bonds among its members and the inherent risks of their mission. His leadership during this time reflects the Wing’s commitment to honoring those airmen while continuing the critical refueling operations they supported.

Traffic Impact
The Memorial Day procession will take place through Historic Dublin and S.R. 161. It will start at 11 a.m. and last approximately 20 minutes.

S.R. 161/Bridge Street will be closed intermittently and on a rolling basis from 10:50 a.m. to noon, between Dale Drive and Monterey Drive for a Memorial Day procession to the Dublin Cemetery.

The wreath-throwing ceremony on the Bridge Street bridge will start at 11:05 a.m. and last 5-10 minutes. Then the Wesley G. Davids Dublin Post 800 of the American Legion will march to the cemetery from 11:10 to 11:30 a.m.

Additional Activities
To round out the day’s observance, The Dublin Link will be illuminated in red, white and blue on the evening of May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.

Community members are also encouraged to take part in the following individual or small group activities: 

  • Participate in the National Moment of Silence. Pause for reflection at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day, wherever you are.
  • Fly the American flag at half-staff. Flags should be lowered from sunrise until noon on May 25.
  • Visit local cemeteries. Take time to reflect and pay tribute to the veterans interred in Dublin cemeteries.
  • Visit the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. Located in Columbus, the museum offers opportunities to learn and reflect. 

Share stories of remembrance. Honor a fallen service member by sharing their story and photo on social media.

The Remembrance Project
The Remembrance Project was initiated by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Dublin Executive Program Class of 2021 to honor Dublin’s veterans. Visitors to the cemetery can scan a QR code at the entrance to access an online platform featuring veterans’ stories, gravesite locations and maps to help guide visits. As additional stories are gathered, volunteers will continue to expand the site with photos and service histories shared by family and friends.
