Seeing double in Dublin, Ohio, we are proud to share that the Abbey Theater of Dublin recently won eight 2023 BroadwayWorld Columbus Awards. For the second year in a row, the Abbey won Favorite Local Theatre and Director Joe Bishara won Best Direction of a Musical.
The theater’s production of “GREASE!” and its cast members won multiple awards, including Best Dance Production, Best Performer in a Musical, and Best Scenic Design. In addition, the production won Best Choreography and Best Ensemble Performance; this is also the second year that the theater received both awards for a musical or play.
The Abbey and Evolution Theatre Company’s co-production of “McQueen” won the award for Best New Musical or Play. The story about fashion designer Alexander McQueen and his encounter with a sneaky fashionista made its North American premiere in May.
Over 40 of the theater’s performers, partners and crew were nominated for this year’s awards.
“The Abbey Theater of Dublin is making its mark with our pre-professional productions and collaborations on area premieres,” says Abbey Theater Supervisor Joe Bishara. “We are humbled by the support and recognition from our patrons and the BroadwayWorld Columbus Theatre community.”
