Dublin Outdoors: Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources

As we light the candles on America’s 250th birthday cake this month, we also celebrate the days of summer where we want to spend as much of the daylight as possible in the great outdoors.

The cherry on top of this All-American celebration is that July is Parks and Recreation Month, too. This makes it the perfect time to take advantage of all the programming and events planned by the City of Dublin to showcase the vital role that local parks, green spaces and recreation professionals play in building healthier, more connected communities.

“It’s Greener in Dublin” is not just a tagline here. Dublin’s parks and green spaces have long been one of the City’s hallmarks. Today, Dublin offers more than 1,136 acres of developed parkland, 178 acres of undeveloped parkland and 64 developed parks ranging from wooded natural areas and river frontage to active, athletic facilities.

This month also marks another special anniversary: the Dublin Community Recreation Center celebrates 30 years of providing premier health and fitness opportunities while also serving as a gathering place for the community. The facility has been so wildly successful since it first opened its doors in July 1996 that its planned Phase II, which included the Abbey Theater of Dublin, multiple classrooms, a community hall and senior and teen areas occurred more quickly than originally estimated, opening in in February 2000. It recently underwent a “refresh” updating key areas and rededicating spaces, including The Lounge and The Hub & Respawn Lounge. To mark three decades of connection, wellness and community, the City of Dublin is looking for you to share your favorite memories, meaningful moments or special traditions centered around the DCRC. Be sure to save the date – Sept. 13 – for a special Rec Center birthday party.
