Project Overview
As part of this program, crews will complete concrete sealing and spot repairs at four existing pedestrian tunnels along Muirfield Drive. The work will help protect the tunnel surfaces while also improving their overall appearance.
Project Details
The project includes the pedestrian tunnels crossing Muirfield Drive at Tarton Drive and Whittingham Drive.
The tunnels were constructed with Muirfield Drive in the early 1970s. As part of this project, all concrete surfaces will be coated with epoxy and urethane sealers to provide a protective layer and enhance the tunnels’ aesthetics. Spot concrete repairs will also be completed as needed.
All four tunnels have a 108-inch inner diameter with cast-in-place concrete bottoms. Approximate tunnel lengths are:
Tarton Drive, northbound: 72 feet
Tarton Drive, southbound: 72 feet
Whittingham Drive, northbound: 80 feet
Whittingham Drive, southbound: 72 feet
Timeline
Work is expected to begin by Sept. 14, 2026 and should be completed by the end of October.
Traffic and Path Impacts
Impacts to vehicular traffic are expected to be minimal.
The shared use path and individual tunnel being worked on will require a full closure during construction. Signs and barricades will be installed to safely direct pedestrians and cyclists around the active work area.
Please use caution near the construction zone and follow all posted signs and detours.
