The Dublin Police Department, alongside nine other agencies, will pilot Ohio’s first statewide police accreditation program focused on setting best practices for law enforcement.
March 21, Dublin Police Chief Justin Páez joined other pilot leaders during a news conference with Governor Mike DeWine at the Department of Public Safety. The Office of Criminal Justice Services announced the accreditation program, which was developed through the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board. Accredited agencies will follow 31 standards aimed at ensuring accountability and instilling greater public confidence in police.
“Residents and visitors to our state deserve to experience consistency from accredited law enforcement agencies they rely on as they seek protection, service and safety,” Páez said. “Transparency about how we police is paramount to ensuring the public doesn’t hesitate for a single moment to call for assistance in their time of need. I’m proud the Dublin Police Department is included in this pilot to showcase meaningful standards that work with and for our community members.”
Since 2020, Chief Páez has served on the Ohio Collaborative as a representative for the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
“Local police departments are instrumental resources for protection and support throughout our counties, cities, towns and campuses,” he said. “This accreditation program keeps our agencies aligned with the fundamental goal of providing security to all.”

Chief Páez’s Remarks
“For the past four years, I’ve represented the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police as a member of the Ohio Collaborative. Together, this group set out to raise the bar on transparency and accountability in law enforcement. To accomplish that, we focused on creating standards that accurately reflect our collective goals of increasing public safety and police professionalism — and identifying best practices for police departments statewide.
Our efforts also notably have been rooted in earning public trust while building confidence in our profession across Ohio. Residents and visitors to our state deserve to experience consistency from accredited law enforcement agencies they rely on as they seek protection, service and safety. Transparency about how we police is paramount to ensuring the public doesn’t hesitate for a single moment to call in their time of need. I’m proud the Dublin Police Department is included in this pilot to showcase meaningful standards that work with and for our community members.
At the Dublin Police, we know how valuable accreditation can be for a community. Our agency’s professional standards have been CALEA-accredited for over 30 years, and the department’s consolidated dispatch center has earned the credential since 2018. This framework allows our officers, in partnership with residents, to craft best practices, as shown through the resident-led Chief’s Advisory Committee in Dublin. Our city recognizes the value of being driven by excellence to build a safe and exceptional community.
Local police departments are instrumental resources for protection and support throughout our counties, cities, towns and campuses. This accreditation program keeps our agencies aligned with the fundamental goal of providing security to all.
Thank you for including our department at the start of this critical addition to public safety accountability in Ohio.”
