Why Dublin?

Having more than 20 years’ experience offering year-round swim lessons, we continually strive to be the best swim program in central Ohio. Our instructors go through over 32 hours of intensive classroom and in-water training before taking an exam to be certified as a Water Safety Instructor through the American Red Cross. Additionally, all instructors are CPR certified and BCI background checked. Our instructors are regularly assessed through in-service trainings to ensure lesson quality and consistency.

Program Length

Swim lesson sessions will be seven weeks in length, meeting once a week.

  • Parent/Child Levels 2-3: 30 minutes with 15 minutes of exploration*
  • Preschool Levels 1 -3: 30 minutes with 15 minutes of exploration*
  • Learn to Swim Levels 1-5 & Youth Aquatic Conditioning: 45 minutes
  • Teen Levels 1-2: 45 minutes
  • Adult Levels 1-2 & Aquatic Conditioning: 60 minutes
  • Adaptive Swim: 30 minutes with 15 minutes of exploration*

*During exploration time, instructor will be present to assist and provide feedback to swimmers while they work on skills learned or play games. Parent/guardian/care-giver are more than welcome to join their swimmer in the water during this time.

Lesson Ratios

Instructor to student ratios will be closely monitored to ensure the safety of all participants and quality programming. The class ratios are as follows:

  • Parent/Child Levels 1-3: 1:12 pairs*
  • Parent/Child Level 4: 1:4 pairs*
  • Preschool 1-3: 1:4 students
  • Levels 1-3: 1:6 students
  • Levels 4-5: 1:8 students
  • Teen & Adult 1-2: 1:6 students
  • Youth Adaptive Swim: 1:5 students*
  • Adolescent/Adult Adaptive Swim: 1:6 students*
  • Youth & Adult Aquatic Conditioning: 1:8 students

*Pairs indicated will require a parent/guardian/care-giver in the water to help aid with skills of swimmer.

Swim Assessments/Transferring Level

Uncertain of the correct level to enroll you or your child? Try our online assessment tool at DublinOhioUSA.gov/swim-lessons/ or schedule an in-water assessment with our Aquatics Programming Coordinator at 614.410.4597. Upon the first class, instructors will confirm participants are in the proper level. Should the participant need to transfer to another level, availability within the current session is not guaranteed and a partial refund will be issued if other sections are unavailable.

Inclement Weather Policy

During inclement weather, the DCRC facilities maintain normal operating hours unless directed otherwise by the City Manager. In general, DCRC class/activity schedules coincide with Dublin City Schools. Whenever schools are released early for inclement weather, all evening classes at the DCRC are canceled. When school is canceled, all daytime DCRC classes are canceled, and a decision regarding evening classes (those after 4 p.m.) will be made by 2 p.m. Please call the Weather Hotline at 614.410.4946, to find out about weekend or evening classes. All attempts will be made to make up missed classes.

Waitlist

All efforts are made to enroll students off the waitlist if availability exists, communication from the Aquatics Programming Coordinator will occur during the first week of the session. No proration will be provided after the start of the class.

Program Types

Parent and Child
Age: 6 months – 3 years
Levels 1 – 4: Familiarize young children with the water and prepare them for the American Red Cross Preschool courses. These levels are not designed to teach children to swim or to survive in the water on their own but to get them acclimated with water.

Preschool

Age: 3 – 5 years
Level 1 Swimmers learn the basics of swimming including bobbing, going underwater and jumping in. While being supported in the water, participants will also learn front and back floating, rolling over from front to back and back to front, gliding, flutter kick and front crawl arms.
Level 2 Builds on the basic aquatic skills learned in level 1, including more advance skills such as arm and leg action, and treading.
Level 3 Increases proficiency on basic aquatic skills learned in levels 1 and 2. Provides additional guided practice with increased distances and times.

Learn To Swim

Age: 6 – 14 years
Levels 1-3 See descriptions for Preschool Levels 1-3.
Level 4 This level takes place in the deep end of our competition pool, focusing on the improvement of freestyle breaststroke and backstroke. Basics on how to perform butterfly will be introduced.
Level 5 Swimmers are challenged with stroke refinement as well as endurance enhancement of strokes learned in level 4.

Age: 6 – 17 years
Youth Aquatic Conditioning

Youth Aquatic Conditioning is an offering from the competitive pathway students can pursue upon completion of Level 5.  The focus of the program is to continue building endurance and stroke technique on all major competitive strokes. It also encourages swimming as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Teen

Age: 12-17
 
Teen 1
Designed to introduce the inexperienced or fearful teen to become more comfortable in and around the water. Swimmers will learn how to float and to start using combined arm and leg actions.
 
Teen 2
Building from Teen level 1, swimmers work on developing strokes, confidence and endurance as novice swimmers and will be introduced to backstroke and breaststroke.

Adult

Age: 15 & Up

Adult 1
Designed to introduce the inexperienced or fearful adult to become more comfortable in and around the water. Swimmers will learn how to float and to start using combined arm and leg actions.

Adult 2
Building from Adult level 1, swimmers will develop confidence and endurance as novice swimmers and will be introduced to backstroke and breaststroke. For continuation of stroke refinement and endurance, please refer to our Healthy brochure for additional programs.

Adult Aquatic Conditioning
Adult Aquatic Conditioning is an offering from the competitive pathway students can pursue upon completion of Adult Level 2. The focus of the program is to continue building endurance and stroke technique on all major competitive strokes. It also encourages swimming as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Adaptive Aquatics Program

Adaptive Aquatics classes are geared for children with special needs between 3-14 years of age. This program is designed to give individuals an opportunity to experience the benefits of aquatics and prepare for the possibility of progressing into our American Red Cross swim lesson program. With the assistance of aquatics staff, participants will work on their swimming abilities and comfort level in the water. These classes are taught in a non-competitive environment, allowing each child to progress at their own pace. All participants must be accompanied in the water by a parent or caregiver. Group Swim Lesson Policy

Payment is due upon registration. You must use a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or AMEX when registering online. If you prefer to use cash or check you must register in person at the DCRC.

Makeup Policy

No makeup classes are offered for lessons missed by participants. Lessons canceled due to weather or mechanical issues are made up at a later date at the same time. If the pool schedule does not permit, a refund will be issued. All participants receive a call to the phone number provided during registration and are notified of the make-up date. No individual accommodations are made if participants are unable to attend the make-up class provided.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Please check the dates of the swim lesson session closely as refunds will not be issued once the session is in progress. Exceptions may be given for medical reasons with a physician’s note or approval from the Aquatics Supervisor. Full refunds are granted, minus a $15 administrative fee, if requests are made prior to the start of the first class date.

Land and Water Group Fitness Passes

All 10-class, 20-class and unlimited monthly group fitness passes allow access to either water or land classes. The minimum age requirement to participate in group fitness classes is 12. Participants under age 18 must have a parent/guardian enroll them and agree to the waiver each time a new pass is purchased.

Class capacities are determined by the equipment used, available space and patron safety. To attend the classes, you must check in at the desk before going to class to get a class pass. Class slots are on a first come, first-serve basis. You may check-in for a class no later than 10 minutes after the class starts. Classes are subject to reaching the participant limit prior to the scheduled class time.

All water fitness classes require a class pass. The online schedule and the back of your class pass will indicate the class location. Leisure Pool classes are indicated in blue font LES and Lap Pool Classes are indicated in green font LAP. Please wear your pass on your wrist & into the pool until the instructor asks you to present it.

  • In-person Land/Water Trial Pass – $11 for a single group fitness class. Must be purchased on-site and used on date of purchase.
  • In-person Land/Water 10 Class Pass– $55 for DCRC members or $70 for non-members. 4 year expiration; non-refundable; pass is not prorated.
  • In-person Land/Water 20 Class Pass– $85 for DCRC members or $100 for non-members. 4 year expiration; non-refundable; pass is not prorated.
  • Land/Water Unlimited Monthly Pass– Monthly access to all land and water classes. Access to classes starts at the date of purchase and continues for one month. $60/month for members and $75/month for non-members. Non-refundable and the pass is not prorated.

ArthritisFoundationProgram

Program designed to safely keep joints moving and improve your sense of well-being. Class will allow you toexercise without putting excess strain on your joints and muscles. Gentle activities in warm water help yougain strength and flexibility. All instructors are trained and certified through the Arthritis Foundation.

Aqua Barre

The perfect blend of yoga, Pilates, and ballet for a total body, aerobic workout in the water! Add body flexibility,increase muscle tone and endurance, and improve balance with small and large range, high repetition movements.

*Aquabata Deep

The popular land Tabata workout is coming to the water! Aquabata is a total body workout using the unique properties of water. There are eight, 4 minute rounds of higher intensity (HIIT) work for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of recovery. Participants adjust the intensity to their fitness needs. Classes may be with or without equipment. This class provides intensity with less stress on the joints.

Aqua Pilates

Aqua Pilates is a new form of exercise that is taking the world by storm. These simple, but effective, workoutsreally do strengthen your core and allow you to be at your best in your daily life. Taking these exercises into thewater increases their effectiveness and will have a huge effect on your workout.

Aquatic Mix-Up

Aquatic Mix-Up – An energetic, cardio class set to pumped up playlists. We’ll do a mix of high to low impact moves and use buoyancy dumbbells to add resistance throughout the workout. You’ll get your heart-rate pumping, plus get a lot of steps in!

Aqua Zumba®

Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! Benefits.There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

*Deep Cardio & Tone

Get your heart rate pumping and get your steps in as well in this energetic cardio class set to music. We’ll do low to high impact moves and use some resistance equipment to tone up our bodies.

*Do you have a Pulse?

Join this high intensity class that features interval training, core strengthening and endurance exercise in anoncompetitive setting. We promise to raise your heart rate, and have fun in the process. Flotation belts andother equipment is provided.

Gentle Waves

A gentle class for those who are just beginning their water fitness journeys. Class focuses on slowly progressing your levels of intensity and gives you modified movements using water aerobics equipment to enhance your workouts. This class is taught in the warm leisure pool waterfall area!

Happy Hour

Join a fun filled water workout class that’s after school and before dinner. Lose stress through variety of movesand stretches guaranteed to relieve tension and improve your outlook.

Hydro Circuit

With the use of Sculpting plates, grippers, kettle bells, and personal body weight participants will work in a circuit to improve strength and increase endurance. This class will cater to all ability levels!

Morning N Motion

A cardio class with low impact on your joints!

Move it or lose it!

Shallow water total body workout in a noncompetitive setting that promises to challenge you no matter your level offitness. On Tuesdays anything goes, on Thursdays we kick-box.

River Challenge

This class strives to improve muscle toning, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, build muscle strength while maintaining good posture. The added component is the current in the river which automatically produces resistance.

Shallow Cardio & Tone

Get your heart rate pumping and get your steps in as well in this energetic cardio class set to music. We’ll do low to high impact moves and use some resistance equipment to tone up our bodies.

Stronger

This class uses the current of the river as resistance to strengthen legs and arms.  Core work is done in the leisure pool and hand held equipment.  The class is a low impact and low cardio class.

Strength, Balance & Stretch

Improve balance, core strength, and muscle strengthening of all major muscle groups while developing good posture, support join integrity, and improve overall cardiovascular fitness. You will leave feeling relaxed and energized.

Class denoted by (*) take place in deep water. Noodles, bars, bells, boards, and balls will be provided in class. Shoes not provided. Gloves are available for purchase at the Front Desk.

Bocce Ball Courts
Two regulation bocce ball courts are available for public use, subject to senior adult programming and league play. Bocce ball sets may be checked out at the Welcome Desk by players 18 and older.

Classrooms
The classrooms house a variety of programs, including pottery and arts & crafts—meeting the needs of preschoolers, children, teens, adults and senior adults.

Community Hall
The Community Hall provides space for parties, receptions, meetings and community events. The facility seats up to 300 or can be divided into smaller rooms.

Abbey theater of Dublin
A 200-seat theater can be used for musical, theatrical and dance performances; film/video; lectures; and seminars.

Computer Lab
Equipped with workstations and a variety of software programs, the computer lab provides high-speed Internet access and opportunities for beginning and intermediate instruction. Open to ages 18 & up.

Family Locker Rooms
Each family locker room has its own shower, restroom and lockers. One locker room, designed for people with special needs, features a dressing table.

Fitness Area
Looking for free weights and cardiovascular equipment? Check out the fully equipped fitness area on the first floor. You will find treadmills, elliptical machines, bicycles and stair steppers along with free weights, Nautilus and a complete set of Cybex strength equipment.

Group Fitness Studios
If you enjoy group fitness, check out the myriad of classes offered. Two state-of-the-art studios feature suspended floors to help reduce impact and injury. Several pass options are available, allowing participants to choose from a weekly schedule of classes that include Spinning®, Pilates and TRX.

Jogging/Walking Track
Joggers and walkers on the second floor track can cover a mile in 13 laps. An expanse of windows provides views of the pools and the outdoors.

Multi-Purpose Pool
The competitive/lap pool measures 25 yards by 25 meters and has two one-meter diving boards. This pool often is divided for activities such as aqua aerobics, open swim, swim team practice and instruction. Bleachers provide ample seating and a separate entrance makes it perfect for area swim meets. The natatorium walls in both the lap and leisure pools are lined with sound-absorbing material.

Leisure Pool
A unique feature of the DCRC is the leisure pool, which includes a lazy river, clam slide for children, double helix slide for those a little more daring and a zero-foot entry point for cautious tots. The warmer water and 3.5-foot maximum depth make this pool perfect for children, adults and senior adults.

Senior Adult Lounge
An elegant, cozy lounge welcomes senior adults to our center. Enjoy playing cards with friends, reading by a fireplace or simply relaxing in this peaceful environment.

Teen Lounge
A teen lounge offers space and a variety of programming opportunities for Dublin teens.

Wee folk/Youth Lounge
While moms and dads are working out, attending a class or relaxing in the hot tub, they can rest assured that their children—from ages 6 weeks to 12 years—are nearby and safe. Children can play in the indoor or outdoor area or engage in age-appropriate games and activities.

Our parks are open for your enjoyment from dawn to dusk, unless otherwise noted at the park or during certain special events.

Shelters/Pavilions
A number of our shelters and pavilions are available to reserve on a first-come, first serve basis. Please be courteous of your neighbors and abide by your reservation times.

Keep it Clean
We’re sure you’ll find Dublin’s parks and bikeways to be clean, beautiful places to enjoy with your family. The City strives to keep its parks, playgrounds and bikeways clean and free of litter. Please leave the parks as clean as you find them so that others will enjoy them as much as you do. Disposal of litter in public places is prohibited unless placed in public trash containers or using City-authorized containers as part of the City’s refuse, recycling and yard waste collection programs.

Pets
We know your furry friends enjoy nature as much as you do. We ask you to be safe and courteous with your pets.

Animals may not run at-large in our parks. All animals must be under the owner’s control at all times. All pets must be securely leashed, kept in a vehicle or suitably caged.

Animal owners also must pick up and properly dispose of any fecal matter left by their pets. It’s not just courteous — it’s the law!

Horses
Horses are allowed in designated areas of Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

Hunting and Fishing
For the safety of our residents, hunting is forbidden in the City. Fishing is permitted in designated areas, including certain City park ponds and in the Scioto River (with a license). Please fish only in ponds where signs prohibiting fishing are not posted.

Respect our Parks
Plants and animals also are part of the Dublin community. Please respect the plant and animal life and ecosystems of our natural areas. Enjoy the flowers, trees and other flora without picking or damaging plants. Touching or disturbing wildlife, including animal and bird nesting areas and eggs can be dangerous to humans — not to mention our flora and fauna! And please do not damage or remove any property or natural feature, including stones and minerals, earth, wood, and nuts. Take only pictures and leave only footprints in our parks.

Rules & Regulations

Dublin Recreation Services is committed to providing quality recreation programs and facilities for the Dublin community. Use of the facilities by families and citizens is strongly encouraged. The following policies have been established to operate the DCRC and to ensure our patrons quality and safe recreation experiences:

  • Proper and valid identification is required to gain access to the DCRC. Users of the DCRC need to check in at the front desk and provide annual pass, resident card, temporary pass or pay the daily pass rate for admittance.
  • Annual pass holders who do not present their annual pass will only be admitted if an alternate form of photo identification is produced.
  • Resident card holders must present their Dublin Resident ID card each visit to receive the daily pass discount rate.
  • Annual passes are not transferable and will be deemed void when in the hands of those other than the proper registrant.
  • The DCRC and its grounds are smoke- and alcohol-free environments by City ordinance.
  • Eating and drinking is permitted in designated areas only.
  • Children ages 9 and under must have adult/guardian at least 16 years of age supervising at all times.  Supervising adults must keep children ages 4 and under within arm’s reach; there must be at least one adult for each two children in this age group. Children ages 5 through 7 must be within sight of their attending adult at all times. Children ages 8 and 9 must have an adult in the facility at all times. For children ages 5 through 9, there must be one adult for every five children. Children ages 10 years and over may enter the facility without an adult supervisor.
  • Youth must be 16 years of age or older to be on the fitness floor.  Youth ages 12 – 15 years are permitted on the fitness floor if directly supervised by an adult or if they have passed the Junior Fitness Card Program (see Fitness Program Section). Youth under the age of 12 years are not permitted on the fitness floor area at anytime.
  • Youth must be 13 years of age or older to be on the track or in the track stretching areas.  Youth ages 8 – 12 years are permitted on the track if directly supervised by an adult or if they have passed the Junior Track Program (see Fitness Program Section). Youth may enroll in the Junior Track Program if they are ages 10-12.  Youth under the age of 8 years are not permitted on the track at anytime unless utilizing the pool observation area with an adult.
  • Changes in recreation schedules may occur without notice. Staff will post changes in the schedule with as much advance notice as possible. Current pool, aerobics and open gym schedules are available at the Front Desk.
  • Dublin Recreation Services is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. It is strongly recommended that you lock your possessions in a locker during your visit to the DCRC.
  • Lockers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Locks may not be left on lockers overnight. Locks which are left overnight will be removed by staff.
  • All participants must observe the rules and regulations relating to the safety and operation of the facilities. Any passholder who fails to comply with the rules and regulations of the DCRC will be subject to the following penalties:
  • One week’s suspension from use of the facilities upon the first incident;
  • Thirty days suspension from use of the facilities upon the second incident;
  • One year suspension from use of the facilities upon a third violation; and
  • Permanent suspension from use of the facilities upon any subsequent incident.

The following activities, although not an exhaustive list, are examples of behaviors that will result in disciplinary action and police reports when applicable:

  • Fighting
  • Stealing
  • Property Damage
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Criminal damage
  • Verbal abuse of staff and/or patrons
  • Not following posted policies and rules

2024 Annual Cleaning, Maintenance & Repairs

The Dublin Community Recreation Center (DCRC) will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 24 through Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 for annual cleaning, maintenance and repairs. The DCRC will reopen at 5:30am Tuesday, Sept. 3. Offices will be staffed for phone calls from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
