Dublin City Council Approves Economic Development Agreement to Bring Motion Picture Company to Dublin

(Dublin, OH) Dublin City Council has approved an economic development agreement with Fallback Studios, an innovative motion picture company dedicated to promoting Central Ohio as a filmmaking destination.

Fallback Studios aims to operate one of the first Hollywood-caliber facilities in the Midwest, offering film and sound stages, a state-of-the-art LED volume wall and production amenities to name-brand studio companies looking to record feature films, TV series and commercials. Additionally, Fallback Studios will work as a production company, utilizing the space to create and publish its own content on a global scale.

The company is looking to purchase an approximate 250,000-square-foot building on a 15-acre campus. It foresees investing more than $20 million in improvements to modernize an existing building to meet the technological and sustainability standards of the motion picture industry. The company plans to hire 21 full-time employees in year one and will employ over 49 full-time staff members within the City by Dec. 31, 2031.

“We are incredibly excited to bring Fallback Studios to Dublin,” says Economic Development Administrator Kirby Dearth. “Their facility will be unlike anything else in the area. Their operations will position Dublin in the international motion picture industry and bring a host of partnered companies to the City.”

The Economic Development Agreement proposed is an incentive package totaling $240,000,
consisting of a seven-year, 18% performance incentive on withholdings totaling up to $120,000, a $60,000 solar installation grant to support their PACE financing project and an up to $60,000 Dublink fiber lateral grant. The incentives are contingent upon Fallback Studios providing documentation of its facility purchase by Jan. 1, 2025, and receiving an occupancy permit and occupying the facility by May 1 and June 1, 2025, respectively. The project is anticipated to bring approximately $621,000 in net withholdings over the term of the agreement, alongside significant investment in building improvements that directly align with City Council’s goals of environmental sustainability and digital connectivity.

Council approved the EDA after a second reading at its meeting on July 1, 2024.
