(Dublin, Ohio) — The City of Dublin has launched “Slow Down Dublin,” a community-based speed management campaign to create safe and comfortable streets for all residents and road users across Dublin, including people walking and rolling.
Slow Down Dublin was created to engage community members to take an active role in supporting speed management efforts, increase awareness of the City’s efforts to manage speed, and improve the community’s understanding of speed management tactics. The City is taking a data-driven approach to speed management, and Dublin Police officers continue to gather traffic and speed data.
Part of the City’s Speed Management Program, Slow Down Dublin is coordinated through the Transportation & Mobility division and the Dublin Police Department. Over the past year, City staff members have sought input from residents via a community-wide survey, public meetings and other community-based engagement activities to inform this campaign.
“We’re committed to reducing traffic-related fatalities and speed-related injuries in the City of Dublin for all roadway users, including those walking and rolling. Slow Down Dublin allows us to implement data-driven strategies to address speed concerns in our community,” says Jeannie Willis, director of Transportation & Mobility. “While we work to apply large-scale tactics to decrease incidents of speeding, it’s important to remember that small changes can also make a big difference. Community partnership and engagement in Slow Down Dublin is essential.”
In addition to the City’s efforts, there are tools and resources available to community members to promote speed safety, show their support for safe streets and encourage others to be careful on the roadways and shared use paths. These include car magnets, yard signs and opportunities to ride along with a Dublin Police officer or request a loaner speed laser to track speeds in neighborhoods.
“Your Dublin Police Department is constantly striving to improve overall traffic safety for our residents, workforce and visitors,” Deputy Chief Greg Lattanzi says. “By focusing our enforcement on speeding and reckless driving, including compliance with school zone limits, we can help change our community’s behavior related to unsafe driving and reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in our city. Slow Down Dublin reminds us that we are in this citywide effort together.”
The Slow Down Dublin webpage also showcases a dashboard where the community can view traffic and speed data, including traffic stops, speed citations, serious injury crashes and the location of speed management equipment.
