One of the most culturally influential individuals in history, Gandhi has influenced the lives of countless people with his message of non-violence and love. He was a prominent figure and influence for notable people such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Albert Einstein and many more.
Dublin City Schools students at all three of our high schools are invited to participate in an essay contest this fall. The 500-600 word essays should address one of the three questions below.
– How can living by Gandhi’s principles help solve world problems today?
– How can Gandhi’s principles of love and non-violent civil disobedience be used to eliminate school violence?
– Why is it important that students learn about the principles and life of Gandhi today?
Essays are due by Sept. 10 and more information on the contest, as well as where to submit your essay, can be found here: bit.ly/Gandhi150essay
One winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Gandhi Memorial Society and eight others will be recognized at a special celebration on Oct. 5 from 1 p.m.-8 p.m. TV Asia will be covering the event.
“We need to heed Gandhi’s words more than ever in today’s society. Gandhi once said, ‘My life is my message,’ and that is a concept all of our students can embrace,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Hoadley. “We are proud of this partnership and we hope many of our high school students will participate in the essay contest.”
On Oct. 5, the District will host a celebration in partnership with the Gandhi Memorial Society at Dublin Jerome High School. This celebration of Indian culture will feature food, music, art, and more. Details of the event will be published as we get closer to October.
