The International Bridge Conference presented by Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania has recognized the Dublin Link among its 2021 projects of the year. Dublin earned the Eugene C. Fig Jr. Medal, which is awarded for a single, recent outstanding achievement in bridge engineering that, through vision and innovation, provides an icon to the community for which it was designed.
The Link opened to pedestrians in March 2020 after three years of construction. Spanning 760 feet across the Scioto River, it is the longest single tower “S” shaped suspension bridge in the world. From the deck, to the suspension design, complex pylon shape and state of the art lighting elements, it truly a unique bridge. The bridge’s name, which was decided by City Council based on community input, represents the connection the bridge makes between Dublin’s Historic District and the new Bridge Park mixed-use neighborhood.
“We are deeply honored and appreciative of the 2021 International Bridge Conference® Awards committee for recognizing the Dublin Link with the Eugene C. Figg Jr. Medal,” says Megan O’Callaghan, Dublin Deputy City Manager/Chief Finance and Development Officer.
“The bridge was no easy feat to design, engineer or build, and we are proud to have worked with a team of global experts on this challenging but rewarding project,” O’Callaghan says. “Together we worked to deliver a beautiful bridge that has become an instant and highly-recognizable landmark in the region.”
The Dublin Link team included Endrestudio, the architect; T.Y. Lin International, the engineer of record; Kokosing Construction Company, the contractor; and Michael Baker International, the project manager.
