The City of Dublin has earned platinum status in the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) Sustainability 2050 Program.
The Sustainability 2050 Program benchmarks MORPC member communities’ sustainability efforts with an agenda created for years 2017 through 2020. This agenda contains five goals involving energy consumption, natural resources, economic opportunity, sustainable neighborhoods and collaboration. Communities are rewarded a status based on their sustainability initiatives.
The City of Dublin excelled in all five goals, which earned the City platinum status- the highest designation. A team of 35 City staff members, with representation from every department, is collaborating on Dublin’s sustainability efforts. Dublin completed more than 45 goals across five categories.
“This is a feeling of validation. A lot of time and hard work went into this project to tell the story of what Dublin is doing and what the city plans on doing in the future,” says J.M. Rayburn, City of Dublin Planner.
Dublin is one of five local governments to be certified by MORPC as the first set of Sustainable2050 communities to achieve an elevated status for their actions to promote sustainability.
“This to me shows leadership and that we are an innovative community to follow. It makes me proud to see that we were able to hit that platinum level,” says Nick Plouck, City of Dublin Management Assistant.
The team was asked to speak at the Summit for Sustainability on October 25. The summit will bring hundreds of community leaders together to explore, learn and share sustainable ideas and solutions.
