(Dublin, Ohio) — While suicide is a difficult public health crisis to talk about, it affects people across all cultures, populations and age groups. The City of Dublin and Dublin Police are partnering with local mental health providers to offer residents a space to discuss suicide prevention as an important community conversation in Dublin.
Town Hall Details
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 15
Time: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Dublin Community Recreation Center
Address: 5600 Post Rd., Dublin, Ohio 43017
The town hall will feature presentations about debunking common myths, how to talk to someone about suicide prevention, and ways to support yourself or others in your life with mental health resources. There will also be a resource fair with local mental health and community services.
The event highlights two breakout sessions for attendees to learn more about addressing the effects of social media and loneliness among young people and adolescents as well as examining effects of social isolation and loneliness in older adults.
Sept. 5-11 is National Suicide Prevention Week, which is an important time to focus on fighting the stigma of mental health conditions, ensuring our community has the correct information to prevent suicide and linking people with the resources they need. September is also Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which emphasizes prevention education and ways to share hope and awareness throughout our community.
This event is free and open to all. It is recommended that children under 18 years attend with a parent or guardian, as some content could be activating for younger audiences. An RSVP is encouraged but not required.
