(Dublin, OH) On Monday, January 6, 2020, Dublin City Council heard public comment on an ordinance that would regulate short-term rentals, such as Airbnb, in the City of Dublin. Council members voted to refer the issue back to the Community Development Committee for further review. Further discussion will take place at an upcoming Community Development Committee meeting, at a date still to be determined.
The ordinance, as originally proposed, included the following regulations:
- All hosts must complete an application prior to listing a Dublin residence for a short-term rental and must obtain a permit annually.
- Hosts may rent out a unit for a maximum of 14 days per calendar year.
- Hosts must submit a form to the City before each renting period detailing the duration of the rental and number of people staying.
- Those who conduct short-term rentals and fail to register with the City could face a $250 fine for violating City code.
The proposed regulations are designed to allow for short-term rentals in the City, while maintaining the character of Dublin neighborhoods.
Columbus, along with several other U.S. cities, have adopted similar ordinances to regulate short-term rentals.
