(DUBLIN, Ohio) Dublin Police Officer Bruce McKenna was selected as the Knights of Columbus St. Brigid of Kildare Council’s Blue Coat of the Year Award recipient.
The Council recommended McKenna based on his service to the community as a School Resource Officer (SRO). The Council said it was impressed with McKenna’s work with the DARE program, active shooter trainings and his classes educating schools and businesses in the A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) program. This program and acronym teach a response to active shooter type threats.
“Officer McKenna is so deserving of this honor. Bruce been dedicated to helping keep our community safe for many years through his work with our Community Education Unit.” said Dublin Police Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg.
McKenna was presented with the award at the Knights of Columbus meeting on July 9 at St. Brigid’s of Kildare Catholic Church in Dublin. He currently serves as the School Resource Officer for Davis Middle School. He was certified as a Master Level School Resource Officer (the highest level in Ohio) through the State’s SRO Accreditation Program in 2016.
