(Dublin, OH) — The City of Dublin again joins the ranks of elite park and recreation agencies and departments across the country by earning reaccreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This distinguished accomplishment was awarded during the 2021 NRPA Annual Conference.
CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation for park and recreation agencies and is a measure of an agency’s overall quality of operation, management and service to the community. This mark of distinction indicates that the City of Dublin has met rigorous standards related to the management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety and services.
“Achieving CAPRA reaccreditation is part of the City’s commitment to providing high quality service and operation of our community’s parks, facilities, programming and volunteer opportunities,” says Director of Parks and Recreation Matt Earman. “Despite the pandemic making preparation for the review process more challenging than usual, being reaccredited helps to ensure that all Dublin park-goers will continue to enjoy the best experience possible.”
As part of the accreditation process, the City of Dublin had to demonstrate ongoing compliance with 154 standards of excellence recognized by CAPRA. The process involves a formal application, self-assessments, a site visit by a team of trained visitors that results in a written report, and a hearing with the commission to grant accreditation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s visitations were held virtually. Once accredited, the agency must uphold the standards by submitting an Annual Report, and the agency is reviewed again in five years.
The City received its first accreditation in 2010, having met 100% of the recognized standards. Dublin is now one of only 192 parks and recreation departments in the nation to achieve CAPRA Accreditation and one of only ten accredited agencies in the state of Ohio.
CAPRA is comprised of representatives from NRPA, the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration, the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials, the International City/County Management Association, the Academy for Leisure Sciences, the Armed Forces Recreation Network and the Council of State Executive Directors.
