The City of Dublin is leveraging cutting-edge public safety technology to support police operations, enhance emergency response, prevent crime, and generate valuable investigatory leads. These tools are being strategically used throughout both the city’s neighborhoods and business districts, including densely populated, mixed-use areas.
These innovative efforts involve launching self-piloting drones, testing autonomous security robots, and implementing license plate reading cameras throughout the community — all part of a forward-thinking approach to keeping Dublin safe.
Starting Spring 2025, the Dublin Police Department will launch a two-year pilot program featuring two autonomous safety robot as —part of an ongoing effort to boost public safety through smart technology. We need your help to name the robot!
Also known as security robots, police robots, or simply bots, these AI-powered patrol units are designed to provide 24/7 visual support in high-traffic public spaces. While they don’t replace officers, they extend the department’s presence and allow for remote monitoring in key areas.
The City’s speed management program provides a framework for a data-driven approach to speed management. With these technologies, the City strives for transparency while promoting safer driving behavior and reducing speeding in neighborhoods and high-traffic areas.
The Dublin Police Department is committed to ensuring public safety through comprehensive preparedness and swift response to critical incidents. This commitment is a cornerstone of the agency’s mission to protect life, liberty and property within the community.
Established in 2020, the Drone Unit has 20+ trained pilots and five drones. They’ve completed thousands of missions with hundreds of flight hours, supporting missing person searches, special event security, crime scenes, traffic planning and more. In 2025, the department expanded the unit to include the Drone as First Responder model.
The Drone as First Responder (DFR) program uses autonomous drone technology to respond quickly to emergencies. When a 911 or police call comes in, a drone can be launched from a rooftop docking site and fly to a scene. DFR provides officers with real-time video streaming so they can make informed decisions and improve response efforts.

The City of Dublin uses Meraki Security Cameras through a partnership between the Transportation & Mobility and IT departments. These cameras provide valuable data and continuous surveillance. Key features include:
Officers are equipped with body-worn cameras that record interactions with the public, providing an objective record of events. These cameras are activated during calls for service and other law enforcement activities, ensuring accurate documentation of incidents. The recorded footage is securely stored and used for evidence collection, training, and review purposes.
In addition to body-worn cameras, patrol vehicles are outfitted with dash cameras that capture video footage from the front of the cruiser. These cameras automatically activate when emergency lights are engaged, recording traffic stops, pursuits and other critical events. The integration of dash and body-worn cameras provides comprehensive coverage of police-public interactions, enhancing situational awareness and officer safety.
