Motorized Mobility Devices in Dublin

Dublin is on the move and safety comes first! Motorized devices like electric scooters, e-bikes and mini motorcycles, have rules for safe and legal use. These guidelines protect everyone who uses our streets, sidewalks and shared use paths.

Here’s What You Need to Know

  • E-bikes (Class 1 & 2): Allowed on streets and shared use paths.
  • Electric scooters: Allowed on streets (with posted speed limit 25 mph or under), shared use paths and sidewalks.
  • E-bikes (Class 3): Allowed only on streets; riders must be 16 years old.
    • These devices are equipped with pedals and a motor of less than 750 watts that assists only when rider is pedaling and stops assisting when bike reaches speed of 28 mph; manufacturers are required to include classification on the label. 
  • Mini motorcycles and Dirt Bikes: NOT allowed on sidewalks, shared use paths, streets or parks.
    • These devices typically do not have operational pedals. 
  • Electric skateboards & Hoverboards: Allowed on shared use paths and sidewalks.

Other Notes

  • Helmet required for anyone on a Class 3 e-bike and anyone under 18 on a moped.
  • No passengers unless the device is designed for more than one person.

In addition to the rules listed, please note:
Homeowner associations (HOAs) may have their own rules about where motorized mobility devices can be used.

Stay Tuned

The City of Dublin is actively reviewing possible additional restrictions on motorized mobility devices and will seek public input soon.  Areas of discussion include speed, helmet use, parental responsibility, etiquette and enforcement.

Public Records Request Overview

In order to support faster response and better tracking of requests, the City of Dublin uses JustFOIA to collect, respond to and manage public information requests.

Why JustFOIA?

JustFOIA is a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) online application that helps streamline the open records request process for the community and improve efficiencies in getting requested information quickly and accurately.

The application lets community members submit requests for all city records, including police reports. Commonly requested information includes accident reports, copies of resolutions and body-camera video.

Revised Charter of Dublin, Ohio

This Revised Charter, as adopted on March 19, 1996, became effective on July 4, 1996.

Zoning Code

The Zoning Code for Dublin is Chapter 153 of the Dublin Code of Ordinances. The Zoning Code sets land development requirements and establishes different uses within individual districts. Zoning regulations address the physical development of a site, such as building height, lot requirements, setbacks from lot lines, minimum numbers of parking spaces, sign types and sizes, and other related regulations.
