Police Offering Free AirTags To Prevent Theft

UPDATE (as of 5 p.m. July 11): The police have given away the inventory of AirTags. Thank you to all those who participated in this theft prevention effort.

The Dublin Police Department, in partnership with the Dublin Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association (DCPAAA), is providing free AirTags to residents to reduce vehicle theft and assist in recovering stolen property.

How To Prevent Theft

AirTags can be connected to an iPhone (not an Android) and tracked through the Find My app. By placing the AirTag in a hidden place in a vehicle, police can use the device’s location to help locate the vehicle should it be stolen.

Hide your AirTag somewhere only you know inside the vehicle. Do not hide it in obvious places like a glove compartment or cup holder.

AirTags can also be used to keep track of personal items, such as purses or backpacks.

What To Know

To pick up an AirTag,

  • You must be a Dublin resident and show proof of ID to receive an AirTag.
  • Visit the Dublin Justice Center, 6565 Commerce Parkway, during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) and ask for an AirTag at the Records Department window in the front lobby.
  • Sign an acknowledgment of acceptance waiver.

AirTags are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Supplies are limited; one AirTag per person.
