Dublin Clears the Path for Excellence and Innovation in Snow and Ice

(Dublin, Ohio) The City of Dublin is eager for winter after receiving two awards at the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Public Works Expo (PWX) in Atlanta, Georgia. Dublin won the Technical Innovation award for the City’s road weather system and the Excellence in Education award, given to City Operations Administrator Gary Browning.

In December, the City installed Vue Robotics camera stations on Avery Road over the intersection of S.R. 33, Emerald Parkway, Glacier Ridge and Hyland Croy Road. With this new technology, Dublin’s SnowGo warriors have up-to-date information on roadway conditions, which helps inform which areas of Dublin should receive treatment first. Innovations like the weather stations align with the City’s Connected Dublin initiatives, which support the use of technology to improve lives, drives and experiences.

Operations Administrator Gary Browning received the Excellence in Education award for hosting educational opportunities, including “Wildlife in Our Communities — Friend or Nuisance?” and the “Fire Hydrant Roadshow”. In addition to his day-to-day role with Dublin, he serves as the vice president of the Central Ohio Branch Board, on the National Transportation Committee and the APWA Workforce Development Committee.

After PWX, the Dublin staff flexed their snow and ice-fighting muscles for the first time since winter at the annual SnowGo Roadeo. During this event, a challenge course is set up in the rear parking lot at the City of Dublin Service Center at 6555 Shier Rings Road. The SnowGo warriors test their skills by completing different handling exercises and an obstacle course.

“Safety is our top priority for the City of Dublin”, Director of Public Service Jay Anderson says. “With our training and technology, we can make efficient decisions to combat the elements. These awards are a testament to our dedication to service and drive for excellence.”
