Dublin Introduces Two New Autonomous Mowers

(Dublin, Ohio) The City of Dublin is moving forward for the second year of its Autonomous Lawn Mower project and is excited to introduce two new mowers, Mow-ana and Mowbi-Wan-Kenobi! These battery-driven, virtually silent mowers have proven to help Dublin provide the best quality of life and environment for our community. With the pilot stage being such a success, the City is proud to share that these mowers are successful, safe and efficient. The City is thrilled to expand the use of autonomous mowers to our larger community parks and optimistic for future endeavors as we continue to provide world-class, innovative amenities that make Dublin the most desirable and sustainable city.

The autonomous mower program supports the City’s mission of becoming the most connected community by using innovative technology to improve lives, drives and experiences. Like Dublin’s other autonomous lawn mower, Lightning MowQueen, these two new mowers can be controlled by a smartphone to maximize efficiency and reduce costs associated with contract work. The program also supports the City’s sustainability efforts. Traditional lawn-care equipment (gas-powered mowers) causes 5% of U.S. air pollution. With battery-operated mowers, the carbon dioxide emissions are eliminated by 87.04 kg annually, helping the City reduce its carbon footprint.

Safety is the top priority for the City of Dublin. Ultrasonic sensors on the mowers detect obstacles and reduce speed to avoid physical contact. The lawn mowers also have small blades that are completely protected by the mower’s deck and collapse when an object is encountered, and an easily accessible stop button ensures that the mower can stop when necessary. All these features work to keep our City staff, wildlife and pedestrians safe.
