While the City serves as a liaison between residents and utility service providers, it’s important that residents understand that the City has no governing authority over Dublin residents’ services.
Electricity

Power Outages
All customers experiencing a power outage are asked to contact AEP via the customer service number: 1-800-277-2177 or the AEP website aepohio.com. In both cases, you are automatically entered into a tracking system enabling AEP to determine the extent and nature of an electrical problem. If the problem persists, please call AEP approximately every four hours, and again when power has been returned.
Identification
Employees typically do not need to enter your home. However, all of AEP employees carry company photo identification. Anytime you have a question about an employee visiting your home, feel free to ask for the employee’s photo identification and the purpose for the service call. Please call AEP customer service if you have any doubts.

Receive an Energy Conservation Kit
Offering kits is one of our Ohio energy efficiency programs. You will not be charged separately if you receive this Energy Conservation Kit. But please know that the costs related to our energy efficiency programs are reflected in all customers’ bills − just as the cost of utility poles, transformers, wires and bucket trucks are included in customer bills. Customers can sign up to receive their Energy Conservation Kit by enrolling online at www.ohioenergykit.com.
Ohio Edison residential customers will be eligible to receive an Energy Conservation Kit with:
- 4 – 60 watt equivalent CFLs
- 3 – 100 watt equivalent CFLs
- 2 – 75 watt equivalent CFLs
- 2 LED night lights
- 1 smart strip (power strip that shuts off other equipment when the master equipment is not in use)
Power Outages
If the power goes out, please call FirstEnergy’s 24-hour automated outage reporting line toll-free at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877). Simply follow the pre-recorded prompts, and you’ll provide us with the information we need to assess the extent of the outage and get the power back on as soon as possible. To safeguard electric equipment – and to ease the initial load when power is restored – customers should turn off or unplug appliances and sensitive electronics.

Union Rural Electric (URE) is a member-owned cooperative delivering electricity to residents and businesses in Union County and surrounding areas. A portion of the Tartan Fields West sub-division is in the URE service area.
Power Outages
In the event of a power outage, check your own breakers and observe whether your neighbors have power before calling 800-642-1826. Our 24-hour member services staff will take your report in conjunction with our automated system. We encourage all members to call—your information assists us with isolating and identifying the source of the outage. At the time of your report, you also may ask for a return call when we have restored the outage as insurance in case your outage is not part of a larger system problem.
Identification
All URE employees carry photo identification and are happy to provide it when asked. On occasion it is necessary for contractors to contact you on behalf of URE. They will have identification and written instruction from the Cooperative to present when they introduce themselves.
Changes to Service Requirements
Please call your electric utility’s customer service if you are planning to make significant changes in the amount of electricity you use. This is particularly important for businesses that will be expanding because we may need to install additional equipment to service your increased needs. Please notify us about the following changes: service increases, construction, relocation of electric facilities and replacing main switches.

If you hear or small gas escaping, call the emergency number provided. Evacuate your premises, leaving lights and electrical appliances as they are (i.e. don’t turn them on or off before leaving).
Water
The City of Columbus provides water service to all Dublin residents and businesses on the public distribution system. The water supply is supported by both surface water and groundwater sources and is regularly tested to ensure quality and safety.
If you suspect a water main break, you can call the City of Dublin Division of Streets and Utilities at 614-410-4750, during regular business hours. A member of staff will visit the site to determine the nature of the problem, and contact the City of Columbus on your behalf. Please use the City of Columbus emergency number provided outside regular business hours. Questions regarding water bills, meters, and meter reading dates, should be addressed to the City of Columbus Division of Water at 614-645-8270
Water Quality
The most common water quality concerns are addressed on the City of Columbus website, however, if you have additional questions, please contact their Water Quality Assurance Lab (WQAL) at 614.645.7691 (8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday).
The City of Columbus performs regular testing to ensure quality and safety, which includes testing lead levels in Dublin every three years. The tests are performed in 50 different locations throughout the City to ensure a wide sample.
