(Dublin, Ohio) — The City of Dublin’s 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade is canceled for Saturday, March 12. Due to the forecasted freezing temperatures and high winds, the City has decided to cancel the event out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the event’s spectators, participants and staff.
Instead, the City will host a community celebration on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, when the forecast is more favorable.
The City’s Riverside Celebration event will continue as planned for Friday, March 11. A grand dedication of The Dublin Link and Riverside Crossing Park will take place starting at 6 p.m. in the park’s East Plaza across the street from Bridge Park.
According to the National Weather Service, the current forecast for Saturday is as follows:
- A chance of snow before 1 p.m., then a slight chance of snow showers after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
The forecasted winds of 13 to 17 mph, as well as gusts up to 28 mph, would create an unsafe environment for the parade balloons and the strolling entertainment groups, including stilt walkers.
“The health and safety of this community and our parade participants is the City’s top priority,” said Director of Community Events Alison LeRoy. “Although we will miss gathering for the much-anticipated return of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, we are looking forward to hosting a community celebration on St. Patrick’s Day.”
The Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Family Celebration will take place from 4:30-7 p.m. at Coffman Park. Read more information.
“Fortunately, this community has demonstrated time and time again our agility and resilience,” LeRoy said. “We appreciate everyone’s support as we once again, reimagine a community event together due to uncontrollable circumstances.”
In addition to the parade cancelation, the Dublin Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast at Sells Middle School is also canceled due to the predicted weather conditions.
