(Dublin, Ohio) The City of Dublin has launched an interactive video game to educate kids—and their parents—about wildlife in Dublin.
Animal Discovery was developed under the leadership of Dublin’s Justin Quisumbing, in partnership with Game-U, a local Dublin business that teaches kids game design, coding and robotics through a STEM-based curriculum.
Once the project was commissioned, Game-U developer Austin Drozin led a competition for students to present game concepts. The goal was to develop an educational game that would attract visitors to the City’s website for nature education resources.
Game-U student Mia Martinez submitted the winning game concept. Animal Discovery is a desktop game featuring Maggie the Magnifying Glass on a mission to discover the wildlife of Dublin. Users guide Maggie to locations like Coffman Park, Scioto Park and the Field of Corn to find and learn about wildlife. Animals include skunks, foxes, deer and coyotes. Featured animals change each season depending on which ones are active throughout the year.
While the game is designed for kids K-5, it can be fun and educational for all ages.
