The City of Dublin’s Community Garden is located at Darree Fields Park, 6259 Cosgray Road. Plot space is 15’ x 15’. You don’t need experience, just a willingness to learn and maintain your garden for the duration of the growing season. Plot space is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to returning gardeners. Participants must be City of Dublin Residents (proof of residency may be required if a current household account is not already on file).
Your efforts in our Community Garden help Dublin meet and exceed several of our community goals and fulfill our mission:
- Helps keep our Community Wildlife Habitat Certification in good standing by providing pollen and nectar sources for honeybees and butterflies.
- Produce abundance harvested beyond what gardeners intend for their own use supports the Dublin Food Pantry and provides quality, organic produce for residents in need.
- The garden provides gardeners and those passing by in the park, an opportunity to connect with nature and other people by fostering our sense of community and increasing our awareness of our interdependence with nature.
To be involved in the project, gardeners should expect to:
- Visit the garden two to three times a week during the growing season (weather permitting).
- Harvest produce on a regular basis.
- Attend meetings (as scheduled) for garden matters, and/or stay in communication with Barbara Ray regarding your garden plot.
Plots are full for the 2022 growing season! Those interested in 2023 gardening at the Community Garden should look for registration information on this web page beginning in February 2023. If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Ray at bray@dublin.oh.us or 614.410.4730.
Available plot space unclaimed by returning participants opens to new City of Dublin residents. Registration fees are $40 for the 15’x15’ plot space.
Please review the Community Garden Guidelines below prior to registering, as compliance of guidelines is a requirement for participation. These guidelines have been established to ensure the gardens are safe, a pleasant environment for our community through fairness and respect for our gardeners, and provide the best care of the soil, groundwater, and the surrounding Dublin environment.
COMMUNITY GARDEN GUIDELINES
- Garden plots may be utilized after April 15 (soil tilling weather dependent) and must be cleared, with all items removed by Nov. 15. Planting must commence by June 15.
- Gardeners are responsible for ensuring guidelines are followed at all times, and communicating garden updates at periodic meetings or via email or phone.
- Plots are to be maintained in a safe and respectful condition. Any problems that may occur must be rectified within seven (7) days from notice sent.
- Gardens that remain untidy for an extensive period of time, are provided reminders. Gardeners who do not maintain their space after 21 days forfeit their plot.
- Gardeners have access to their plot during normal park operating hours, dawn until dusk.
- Gardens are to be maintained through organic means only.
- Gardeners are responsible for their plot weeding, watering, and general upkeep.
- All participants must be respectful of others’ plots by tending to sprawling plants, planting taller plants toward the center of their plots, and not impeding others’ plots in any way.
- Gardeners unable to maintain their plot must notify Barbara Ray to discuss.
- Gardeners are responsible for all of their own tools.
- Fencing less than two feet in height is permitted to exclude garden pests.
- Trellises must be 6’ or less and should not impede neighboring plots.
- NO PETS are permitted in the garden area at any time.
- Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
- Items such as trash, weeds, and spoiled items must be removed and properly disposed of, or composted by the gardener.
- Gardeners are encouraged to plant extra produce for donation to the Dublin Food Pantry. Those who do this should drop off their produce to the pantry the same day as it is harvested for the best quality.
- Water is provided on site. In previous seasons the use of hoses has not been permitted. Several water spigots are available for hose connection. Gardeners are asked to be respectful of water use and adhere to the following hose guidelines:
- Gardeners bring their own hoses.
- Gardeners must be at the garden while the hose is in use.
- Gardeners must remove and take their hose with them after every use.
- No hose is permitted to remain hooked up or left unattended.
