Dublin City Council approved the five applications submitted for 2021 Beautify Your Neighborhood Grants. The grant applications were first reviewed by the City’s Community Development Committee, which recommended approval.
The Beautify Your Neighborhood Matching Grant Program was established in 2011 to provide funding assistance on an annual basis to support Dublin Homeowners Associations and Civic Associations in enhancing their neighborhood with high-quality, sustainable beautification projects that benefit and enhance the Dublin community.
The approved 2021 budget for these grants was $32,000. The total amount of grant funds requested from the five applications is $23,244. Projects were approved for the following neighborhoods:
- Bishops Run/Bishops Crossing ($5,000)
- Riverside Woods ($5,000)
- Savona ($3,244)
- Terrazza ($5,000)
- Wyandotte Woods ($5,000)
Project Descriptions
Bishops Run/Bishops Crossing
The project for this BYNG location includes planting 30 trees in the green space along Hyland-Croy Road as part of the final phase in their Amended Final Development Plan, as approved by the City. The project calls for 10 Swamp White Oak trees, 10 Bald Cypress, and 10 Green Giant Arborvitae.
Riverside Woods
Riverside Woods is focusing on upgrading the landscaping at Riverside Woods Boulevard and Hard Road. The project includes the removal of several dead or dying plants and trees, relocating existing plants, and installing new plants that are deer resistant and provide year-round color.
Savona
The project is a second Phase of landscaping improvements located along Winemack Lane, near the intersection of Corazon Drive and Vineyard Haven Drive. Phase 1 was approved for BYNG funds in 2020; due to the timing of last year’s grant awards and weather delays, new planting recommended in the 2020 application have yet to be installed, which are now included as part of the proposed Phase II improvements.
Terrazza
Terrazza plans to rejuvenate the entryway to the Terrazza condominium community and single-family homes near the intersection of Corazon and Terrazza Drive. Many of the trees and shrubs originally installed have died due to disease, and have since been removed. New plant material focuses on disease-resistant replacements that provide year-round color and interest.
Wyandotte Woods
Wyandotte Woods is focusing on enhancing the entry to the neighborhood, which is located at Riverside Drive and Wyandotte Woods Boulevard. Plans call for a variety of plant and tree species to refresh the entry, which has large bare areas from the dying out of plants over time. The plans also call for the installation of 1.75 tons of additional Delaware Grey slab stone to complement the existing stonework and new plantings.
About the grants
The first Beautify Your Neighborhood Grants were awarded in 2011. Since then, City staff has worked with numerous associations to identify possible beautification projects and assist in application preparation. Potential projects include entry features enhancements with new signs and lighting, updated landscape beds, benches, removal of invasive species and art installation among others.
