(Dublin, OH) Dublin Police are mourning the loss of one of their own after former Detective Erik Gilleland died Friday April 5, from cancer.
Detective Gilleland, 50, was hired by the City on May 4, 1999 and retired on March 28, 2019. He had specialized and ancillary assignments of Detective, Technical Accident Investigator, Field Training Officer, Awards Committee Member, and was on the FBI’s Child Exploitation Taskforce.
“Erik was a cherished member of our police department with his larger than life personality and wonderful heart,” Interim Chief Justin Paez said. “Our family will truly never be the same without him. As we collectively mourn the loss of such a tremendous officer, detective, colleague, teacher, mentor, friend, and brother, we will also continue to do all we can to support his family.”
Prior to his career at the Dublin Police Department, Gilleland was employed by the City of Bexley as a Police Officer and at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff in Corrections. Detective Gilleland had 28 years of combined service within law enforcement.
He was a graduate of St Charles Preparatory School, member of The Shamrock Club of Columbus, The Emerald Society and president of the Columbus Currach Club.
Detective Gilleland leaves behind his wife Paula and children, Molly and Bryan. A private ceremony will be held for friends and family next week.
