What We Do
Chief of Police
Chief Justin Páez leads the Dublin Police Department, focusing on the leadership, direction, guidance and management of the agency. The chief directs and manages all functions, operations, programs, services, activities and resources of the department through partnership with the bureau commanders. The chief also ensures that laws and ordinances are enforced ethically and impartially.
Chief Justin Páez began his career in law enforcement in 2001 and has been a member of the Dublin Police Department since November 2003.
During his career, Chief Páez has served as a patrol officer, patrol corporal, accreditation sergeant, community impact unit sergeant, lieutenant, operations bureau commander, services bureau commander and deputy chief of police.
Chief Páez is the seventh Chief of Police for the Dublin Police Department following retired chiefs Harold Rose, Robert Mayer, Ron Ferrell, Rob Geis, Mike Epperson and Heinz von Eckartsberg.
Chief Páez earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bowling Green State University. In 2022, Chief Páez completed the Northwestern University Leading Diversity, Equity and Inclusion online program focused on managing and leading transformative change. In 2021, he earned his Master of Business Administration in Leadership and Change from Tiffin University.
He is also a graduate of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police leadership courses, including the “Supervisory Training and Education Program (STEP)” and “Police Executive Leadership College (PELC),” as well as the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
The chief is chair of the committee that oversees the Police Executive Leadership College and serves on the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board as Gov. Mike DeWine’s representative from the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
Chief Páez, and his wife, Abby, have five children and are proud members of the Dublin community.
Deputy Chiefs
Operations Bureau Commander
This bureau includes the department’s patrol section, drone unit, recruiting and field training unit, and the Memorial Tournament security. Deputy Chief Greg Lattanzi leads the bureau.
During his career, Deputy Chief Lattanzi has served as a patrol officer, traffic enforcement officer, defensive tactics instructor, patrol corporal, patrol sergeant, field training supervisor and now serves as the operations bureau commander. Deputy Chief Lattanzi has been a member of the Dublin Police Department since 2005.
While serving as operations commander, Deputy Chief Lattanzi oversees the operations of the department’s patrol section, drone unit, records and property section, and the recruiting and field training unit. Additionally, Deputy Chief Lattanzi is responsible for the coordination of safety forces for the Memorial Tournament.
Deputy Chief Lattanzi is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and attended North Central State College. He is also a graduate of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police leadership courses including the “Supervisory Training and Education Program (STEP)” and “Police Executive Leadership College (PELC)” as well as the Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command. Deputy Chief Lattanzi also serves as an advisor for the State of Ohio Office of Law Enforcement Recruitment.
Deputy Chief Lattanzi lives in Marysville with his wife, Ashley, and has two children, Brayden and Makenzie.
Support Services Bureau Commander
This bureau includes the Detective Bureau, Community Impact Unit and Community Education Unit. The bureau focuses on safety for City special events, including the Independence Day Concert and fireworks, as well as the Dublin Irish Festival. Deputy Chief Nick Tabernik leads the bureau.
During his career Deputy Chief Tabernik has served as a patrol officer, corporal, and sergeant, as well as the supervisor of the Field Training Program. He also served as the sergeant over the department’s Community Impact Unit prior to his most recent promotion. Deputy Chief Tabernik has been a member of the Dublin Police Department since 2005.
In his current role as the Support Services Bureau Commander, he leads and manages the Detective Bureau, Community Impact Unit, Community Education Unit, the accreditation process and the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit. Additionally, he is responsible for the coordination of safety for City special events, including the Independence Day Concert and Fireworks and the Dublin Irish Festival.
Deputy Chief Tabernik earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Studies from the University of Dayton and obtained a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a graduate of the 282nd Session of the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and the Supervisor Training and Education Program through the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
Deputy Chief Tabernik lives in Marysville with his wife, Sara, and son. His hobbies include spending time with his family and being a diehard Cleveland sports fan.
Bureau Director – Technical Services
The Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center (NRECC) is a nationally accredited consolidated 9-1-1 police, fire and EMS dispatch center serving four municipalities and two townships in Central Ohio. NRECC dispatches police to Dublin, Hilliard, Worthington and Upper Arlington, and fire to Washington Twp. (Dublin) and Norwich Twp. (Hilliard), Worthington and Upper Arlington. Director Jay Somerville leads the bureau.
With more than 33 years of service in public-safety, Jay Somerville is the Director of the Technical Services Bureau at the Dublin Ohio Police Department. In that role, Director Somerville serves as the Director of the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center, a nationally accredited consolidated 9-1-1 police, fire and EMS dispatch center serving four communities in Central Ohio.
Director Somerville started his career as a dispatcher with the City of Lima in 1986 at the age of 16. He moved to Dublin in 1992 and has held the positions of dispatcher, communications training officer, shift supervisor and director. He has also been recognized by the National Emergency Number Association as a certified Emergency Number Professional (ENP).
For more than 20 years, Director Somerville has travelled nationwide providing training and certification for trainers, supervisors and managers of 9-1-1 dispatch centers, including 15 years as an adjunct instructor for the APCO Institute.
An active APCO (Association of Public Safety Communications Officials, Inc) member since 1989, Director Somerville is a life member of the Ohio Chapter of APCO and has served as a two time past president. He currently serves as the legislative liaison for Ohio APCO and represents Ohio APCO on the Ohio Statewide Emergency Services Network committee, serving as the chair of the Ohio PSAP Operations subcommittee.
